Gustaf Asplund is currently the Chief Architect at Abako International Partners AB, an urban planning consultancy firm that has had an office in Addis Ababa since 1995. He has more than four decades of experience in architecture and planning, most of which has been in Africa and the developing world. Since 2009 he has been involved in urban development issues in Kenya as Urban Development Advisor to the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi. He also served as an Urban Advisor to South Africa through Sipu International AB.
He graduated in 1973 from the Chalmers Institute of Technology and splits his time between Gothenburg, Sweden and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Wherever he finds himself, he takes advantage of public spaces by socializing with community members and enjoying the city life around him.
